IPC – Association Connecting Electronics Industries® announces the U.S. premiere of the "Process Advice & Defect Clinic" at its upcoming Printed Circuits Expo, APEX and the Designers Summit 2007, February 20-22, 2007 in Los Angeles, Calif. With a twist on the old whodunits, the clinic will provide the opportunity for attendees to get free and unbiased help and advice on vexing board assembly and process mysteries.
Sherlock Holmes may have been a savvy English gent, but his compatriot Bob Willis, Electronic Presentation Services, clinic coordinator, has the edge when it comes to the electronics industry. When the exhibition opens on February 20, visitors will have access on the show floor to Willis’ expertise and special inspection and test equipment to discover solutions to process problems. Alternatively, Willis will be collecting questions in advance via e-mail at

“The process defect clinics we have held in Europe have proven to be very popular, so we’re excited about bringing it to the U.S. for the first time, and especially to premiere it at APEX,” comments Willis. “Our experience tells us that participants find the clinics as a great way to get to the heart of a problem. Practical solutions to engineering problems are always the best, and we’ll be ready to assist attendees in better understanding the process problems and suggested recommendations.”
To encourage participation, the clinic will reward the most interesting or perplexing process problem or question. A set of interactive lead free training materials, X-ray inspection and defect guide, plus sets of inspection and quality control wall charts will be awarded to the winning entry, and all visitors to the clinic will receive a "Process Defect Guide.”
In addition, each month leading up to the show there will be a “Defect of the Month” feature on the IPC show website, www.GoIPCShows.org under Special Events. Free to download as a PDF file, the feature will illustrate common problems found in manufacturing and the causes and cures for each.
The Process Advice and Defect Clinic is sponsored by Global SMT & Packaging, DAGE, Kester and RMD Instruments.
